2007 S40 T5 AWD turbo failure?
Just purchased this car. It has 61K miles. My daughter who is 400 miles away called and said the check engine light came on after filling it up with fuel. Then it started making a loud screaching sound. I'm guessing it is a turbo since I can't really hear it well over the phone. Stops when throttle is added. Seems to drive and run fine. She has driven it 4 days since I changed the oil and put 0W-40W Mobile One in.
My question is, when I changed the oil I was surprised that the oil filter canister was empty of oil. Is that normal? Also the filter fit snugly down in the canister but was a little loose fitting to the cap. Also I was concerned that something was missing on the cap end. It wasn't a flat mating surface.

Sounds like it could be the PCV problem. Not sure if the 2007 had that issue or not. If she takes the oil filler cap off does the squealing stop? If so it's the PCV system. There is an extended warranty on that.
I doubt the turbo failed. That would probably be the last thing to go unless there is no oil in the engine.
