2007 S40 -- Windshield Wipers for under $40??

Hello All,
I've searched this forum for for specific info on replacement wipers for my 2007 s40, and I am still confused...Are there no adapters that will fit the "regular" wiper blades (ie, the ones they sell in the auto parts stores, like rain-x, Michelin, etc..)??
From what I have read here, that connection interface is Volvo-specific, and you have to get replacements from the dealer (or other online source) and they have to be genuine Volvo parts. This seems like a kinda ridiculous, borderline infuriating racket going on here...$40 to $50 bucks, really??

I've read a couple posts where people are asking these same questions, and them others chime in with "I bought the rain-x and they fit fine", or "Brand 'x' from Autozone fit mine..." and then the post ends...These people must have different years, because I tried the $18 Rain-X Latitudes, and despite what the little computer at Wal-Mart or the guy at Auto-Zone told me they DO NOT fit my 2007. The connectors include are just not compatible.

I have found genuine Volvo wipers on ebay for around $30-45, but I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something here. I just can't force myself to believe that in 2011, in a world where there are 50,000 knock-off I-Phone chargers, connectors, cases, etc.. selling for literally pennies, some aftermarket company cant replicate these Volvo connectors and offer them for a reasonable price.

And for you folks saying you got the regular blades to fit yours, please show me a picture and/or tell me your year so I l know I'm not going crazy here...

Thanks!

Wipers

I went to Auto Zone and had difficulty there as well. Three different brands later, I finally found the ones that fit. They were some of the cheaper ones they sell there, sorry I don't remember the name. AS I recall, I think they were in a red package. Anyway, mine are working great.

Not sure about the 2007 S40, but on the 2008 S60 I was able to get Rain-X Repel blades to work fine. They come with the "I&L" adapters required for the wiper arm mounts. They look like factory blades when installed. Use a tape measure to make sure you get the right length! They always list the wrong lengths... The S60 used a 22" and 24". Oh.. bought them off Amazon.com.

Again, not for the S40, but what I used on the 2008 S60 - works great:

Rain-X Repel Premium Bracketless Wiper Blade - 22"
Rain-X Repel Premium Bracketless Wiper Blade - 24"

I lucked out... When I took my car to get an oil change from the dealer (not a Volvo dealer) where I bought the car from, I asked them how much it would cost to replace the one wiper that was bad. They said $20 for both, and that was an offer I just couldn't refuse.:D

I have no idea what brand/type they are, but they have that Volvo-style connector on them. They don't say "Volvo" on them like the OEM ones did though, but for 20 bucks I can't complain. They look just like the old ones.

Thanks for letting me know about the those Rain-X Repels--they don't have those at my local Walmart or Autozone-- I'll get those online next time.

$20 is a good deal, even installed.

When buying for the S60, I found 2+ websites that said get the 26" for the driver's side - even the Rain-X site. Grrr... I left them a nastygram.

Rain-X® Wiper Blade Selector Guide

So that's what I bought on Amazon. It was 2" too long, and knowing what a pain that doing an RMA can be, I searched for a Rain-X dealer in my area to see if they would swap the 26" for a 24" at no cost.

Found out that O'Reilly's sells them, so I took the new 26" in to trade it. Turns out they only carry up to a 24", but their computer showed the 26" cost the same as the 24" so they swapped it for me, free. The guy laughed and said that someone will come in wanting a 26" sooner or later, so no big deal to them.

It amazes me that even the Rain-X website has the wrong size listed. They had it wrong for my Infiniti G37 as well.
