Acceleration issue with '01 s40
i have the following problem:
when accelerating from a stop, sometimes the engine will "miss" when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. the engine will race as if it's in neutral, with the rpm's going up to around 4000. then 2nd gear will catch, the car jerks and everything seems fine. it doesn't happen all the time; only very intermittently. of course, the dealer can't get the car to reproduce the problem, so they have no idea what to do or even any suggestions about what might be causing it. i can't "make" the car do this, it happens very randomly. it's weird, because when i had my car @ the dealer for this, they gave me a loaner '02 s40 and it did the exact same thing one time while i was driving it. the car has about 80000 miles on it. maybe similar to this issue?: https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s40-11/2000-s40-high-revs-30090/ i don't know... any ideas? thanks in advance... |
same thing happens to us occasionally...we're at 150,000 on our 01 s40

chack the plugs.
i have this problem exactly in my s40 T4 it happen only when you kickdown from 0 to around 70 at 4000 rpm in the 2 gear. chack and replace the plugs if necessary. |
My 2003 S40 does the same thing only when i take of without warming it up.

OK, so obviously there's a problem with the s40...what is it and what is the answer to the problem?
i don't think it's the spark plugs; i'm on my second set in 85000 miles and there's been no difference. any other ideas on this??? |
look at the thread ive just posted
is like this? does it kicks like this?(click the link)

My old s40 used to do this, after changing the spark plugs and air filter and things like that it didnt do it as much. It did eventually start doing it again though. Apparently for me it was the catalyic converter (sp?). The fuel additives that i was using were not meant to be used in vehicles with catalytic converters. Luckily though for me, the factory warrenty on exhaust parts was until 80,000 miles, so i got a new one for free. You might want to check that out.
