Anyone had a fuel pump go on you? X40 2000-2004?
Hi gang, my daughter will be leaving us here in Toronto for gig in Sarasota FL at the end of the summer and she will be taking my 2003 V40 with her. While it does have a fair amount of mileage on it (200k), it still runs really well and I’ve taken very good care of it. I’m racking my brain thinking of whether I should proactively replace anything for her that might cause her grief and two items come to mind (both are originals) the fuel pump and the radiator. Has anyone had a fuel pump go on them? That’s one that I’m most nervous about. The rad is the other item I’m hesitating on. Any comments would be welcome. |
I've replaced both on my 2001. The fuel pump just stopped working and left my daughter stranded but it was only 30 miles away. That sucker is expensive though because it's the whole sending unit and float and pump. It's real easy to get to under the back seat.
The radiator was replaced due to leaks. No major failure, just minor persistent leaks where the aluminum and plastic are joined. |

Hmmm. the radiator has no leaks but last time I replaced the upper hose a triangular piece of plastic snapped right off the top where the hose connects and it felt quite old and brittle. Makes me a bit nervous if the rest of the unit is in same condition... |
Fuel Pump Issue in 2006 S40
My son's car had a problem. He lost power while driving, only to find the fuel pump fuse blown. It was replaced now that car will not start. Any ideas on what could e causing it. Also in Toronto area

Well normally the fuse pump fuse doesn't blow for no reason. Start by checking fuel pressure. If the pump has seized the fuse could have overheated and blown. Or maybe you have a short to ground on the fuel pump wiring. Or maybe it's something else so start with the basics and check the fuel pressure. :)
