automatic transmission does not clutch
Hi everyone,
I replaced all of the automatic transmission solenoids and earlier the transmission control module and still the tranny does not clutch and shifting to manual position only two speeds are working the 2 and 4th gear. The car is 2008 volvo s40 5cyl.non turbo engine.
Anyone has any experience with this issue before and do know some specific part which is can be wrong controlling this gear level yet?
thank you in advance
God bless all of you
Robert

Yes it was the same problem before I replaced the TCM and solenoids.
Does not clutch it means that on poisition "D" the car gear has to be on the higher level because the engine has to be run on high RPM pushing the accelerator down while the car start to move very slowly but after switch to the manual position on the notification area appears the number "4" and after switching manually it jumps to number "2"
Manual position switch is working so I switched first to the 2. gear and after to 4.
I really do not know what shall I to check or fix.

I'm having some problems following your explanation, but if the transmission is slipping while it's in a particular gear, that's pretty much going to be a fatal flaw - a slipping clutch. Nothing to do but overhaul the transmission or replace it.
If the car slips BETWEEN gears, it's a "control problem" that is almost always resolved by a fluid change, solenoid replacement, or valve body replacement (likelihood in that order).
I can't work out how the car is acting in manual mode, but it sounds like it's avoiding some gears (presumably those with the bad clutch)?
