I have an 07 volvo s40 and did not get the premium sound system...I was wondering if it was possible to somehow add an AUX imput to my car for ipod purposes...

2. pay a lot and change the radio

 

It depends if you have an early or late production 2007. Somewhere in the middle of 2007, they changed to a stereo with an aux input. I think that unit also plays mp3's.

If you have one of these then you are in luck. If not then your options are the FM modulator or (since you have the Premium Sound System) the Denson Gateway 500. The Denson interfaces directly with the fiber optic system and provides superior sound to the modulator and has iPod, iPhone, USB, Video, Bluetooth, MP3 and analog inputs . The only problem is that they go for about $500.

Changing out the stereo is not really an option unless you want to hack up your car. The system is integrated with the climate control and is linked via fiber optic cables. You are fortunate to have the Premium sound system as it sounds very good and upgrades from the lesser systems are near impossible.

i also have an 07 and was hoping for an easy way to get AUX... turns out there isn't one. asked a few places.. I bucked up and ordered a FM modulator off of amazon today for 40 cents.. not bad. plus it will charge my ipod at the same time, so that saves me from having to bring it in the house every once and a while

 

What did you end up doing? I've got an '07 S40 as well and no mp3's is KILLING ME!

 

There has got to be a way. Heres an example of someone's AUX DIY cable for an E46 BMW. I would imagine if you can do it for that car, you can probably do it for the S40?

You can likely do that for the 2007.5+. The earlier ones do not have such an input. There are some guys on SS that hacked the basic system and added an aux input.
