Blown Head Gasket or engine?
So, what I thought might have been a blocked PCV vent system is worse than I thought. Checked all 5 cyl compressions and I'm all over the place.
I44,122,80,74,100. Could this just be a blown HGasket or blown engine? Only 60K miles. Initially started chasing down erratic idle and excessive positive crankcase pressure thinking it was a plugged Vent system. Wouldn't a blown HG show just maybe adjacent cylinders low? Could use some advise here. Looks like blowby but with only 60k I would think the block would be ok. 2010-S40. Thanks Adding oil doesn't bump them much maybe 10 psi there are no other telltale signs of smoke, vapors, milky oil or overheating. Just blowby symptoms and erratic idle. |
I'd also think if you had a blown head gasket you'd get oil in the coolant or HCs in the coolant. You can buy an HC coolant test kit for about $30 to see if any combustion gases are reaching the coolant - typical of a blown head gasket.
Your numbers are all over the place, and only one suggests a normal reading - so I'd also do a retest with a different gauge (If you didn't use a quality gauge, you can probably rent a pro quality one at a big autoparts). Did you do the test with a hot or cold engine? |
And don't forget the throttle has to be wide open while cranking. Hopefully the Electronic Throttle Control allows wide open throttle while cranking.
