Broken timing belt replaced....But car won't start help please

I have a 2002 Volvo s40 and recently my timing belt broke while I was driving and my car shut down, it took me awhile to realize that the timing belt was broken after towing it home and repeatedly trying to start the car. But after discovering my timing belt had broken I notice a lot of oil around the cam gear. I replaced the belt and set the timing marks, tried to start the car and it cranks but it won't start. So my question is....... Is the leaking cam gear the reason my car won't start or is it something else??? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks 😁

When a timing belt breaks, it usually damages/breaks quite a bit. You may need to tow it to a shop and have them find out all the parts that need replacing.

You probably need new valves.

Mine bent all 8 exhaust valves. A compression check will tell the tale.

curious if Autozone or one of the big box autoparts stores rents an inspection cam...

Harbor Freight has a $70 version and a hi-res $170 version. I don't know if the auto parts shops have them for rent.

The $70 HF version won't fit through a spark plug hole. Even if it did, with a borescope, I am not sure you'd make a solid determination on a bent valve.

A compression tester, however, does a super job on that diagnosis, and they're cheap.

If they're all bent, a camera works great. I always use it before the compression test. Less labor to save the customer money.

Check every cylinder. If the exhaust valves (or intake or both) are open in every cylinder, there's your problem.
