Cam Swap

so i have heard a rumor about a 2000 s40 cam swap for the NA cams. if this is true, which year and model would these NA cams come from. i cant find much info on the subject.

im running a tune on my 2000 s40 right now. boost is about 11psi. any upgrades to valves? i know forge makes a CBV with a 5-10 lb sping. wastegate? that would compliment the tune?

the NA S40s never came to the US so you'd need to find a source. I think the cams you are talking about would come out of the B4204S engine (NA version of the 4204T). The 4204S cams have a slighting longer duration 250 deg in/252 deg ex versus the turbo at 242 in and 243.5 exhaust respectively and slightly more lift 8.45 for the NA, 7.90 for the T. What this will do is push your Torque and HP peak up about 1000 RPM and should run strong to about 6200 RPM. Read more here: Forum @ Nordiska X40 Klubben

is it worth it for an automatic street driven car? im looking for some more consistent power and torque lower down. I think i hit the boost limit of the car which is about 11 psi? im just trying to find a way to nurse maybe 25 more horses out of it im gonna do some more exhaust work. what would you recommend doing? the tune is supposed to have taken it from the 160 hp to around 200 hp. however i beleive due to reading my scanguage which may or may not be accurate that i am hitting 224 hp at what im assuming is the crank regularly.

Have you done a larger downpipe from the turbo? I think exhaust work makes more sense than doing the cams just on level of effort alone. Have you done a 3" downpipe yet? if not that'd be next, then consider a free flow cat. You can also go with a bigger turbo than the 14T if you want to get more boost (although you may have to build the turbo with the upgraded impeller etc yourself - check out the ARD Tuning website). Then there is the option for the cold air intakes - OEM is pretty good but you may be able to get a couple of HP there.

i cant find a downpipe I did find a magnaflow cat that bolts directly to turbo like the OE which is apparently much less restrictive. I'm wondering if this motor can handle more boost than 10psi and I heard adding a boost controller will actually let the boost hit sooner even if you are running same psi as before. I guess less lag from electronic system?
