CEL/J-hose Replacement

CEL/J-hose Replacement
Hey everyone,
My NYS inspection is up at the end of the month, but my CEL light is on so I know it won't pass. Checked the code, coming up as P0442, which is a evap emissions leak (small). I've already checked my gas cap to make sure its properly fitted, but I haven't tried replacing it. unscrewed and looked at it, and it doesn't look cracked or anything.
I've done some research and found that my J-hose might need to be replaced?
I have almost no experience repairing cars, but is this something that I could do myself? Some say the suspension needs to be dropped, others say it doesn't. Or, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost approximately to get it done at a shop? College student here with not a ton of disposable income to throw around, but I need to get the car inspected.
Any help you can give would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
