CEM repair or replace
I am having a lot of trouble keeping my 2002 S40 headlights on. The mechanic I use (a Volvo mechanic) says the problem is the central electronic module. I can either get this one repaired or get a used one. Is there a reputable business in North America that can do this? If so where.
I found one and they would fix it fore 349.00 plus $ 79.00 for shipping. I can get a new one for $ 463.00 so that idea is better than replacing or repairing my existing CEM. Maybe there is some wo can repair for less money or sell me a used one. I am open to either idea. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Respectfully, Lou Reed |
when I did my 2000 S40, I went to a local recycle yard and found a used one for $65. So far so good after 5 years.

I have read you can replace a few chips on the circuit board for very low cost. You know anyone who is into electronics? Otherwise, junkyard.

For things like this, I usually go to eBay to find a used one. There's usually a good selection of parts from sellers who have a vested interest in making you happy (because they don't want bad feedback). That's not always (ever?) the case with junkyards. I did a quick check, and there are loads of sub-$100 CEMs advertised (not sure which model the OP's S40 is so can't say for sure there's one for that car).
