couldnt turn the key around to on(start engine) geniune key used

yesterday i couldnt turn the switch to on position, just i and ii,(everything electrical came on) to start the engine the key gets blocked as if i were using a generic key. a couple of month ago i coulnt remove the key from ignition, but still i could start the engine, so a guy opened it up and remove a clip or wire he told me, so the key was realeased, yesterday was a headache cuz i was really late 2am at a parking garage, fortunately i hitted hard enough the ignition with some pliers tht it finally started. help again plz, i will appreciate it, thnx.

I am starting to see a rash of this lately. The ignition assembly is bad.

no I didnt .... hasnt happend in about 2 months....I think it might have to do with the shift knob... just a guess cause sometimes the key wont come out of my s40... this is because my shift knob button kinda gets stuck and when that happens it wont let the key come out....

I just had the same problem with my s40 after i got the new motor put in it. The problem was that the shift knob was clicking into place. The switch on the shift knob wasnt closing all the way and caused the key to get stuck in the ignition. If it happens again makesure the switch isnt stuck and you should be fine. If that isnt the problem my suggestion is have the ignition assembly replaced.
