RE: Dash board light bulbs?

Volvo part # 30618412. You can order them from myswedishparts.com
I just changed mine last week. Order all 3; they come with the blue caps on them. Easy change out; 20 minute job. About 9 bucks each though + shipping....
Mine is a 2002; not sure if 2000 is same bulb.

A newbie with a similar problem.

Thought I'd wipe the dust off this thread instead of wasting forum-space. I think I have a busted bulb in the climate-control, but I have no idea of how to get to it or change it. The pictures below should help.

Thanks.

P.S. Also included a picture of the exterior-light control. Not sure if it's supposed to be lit up or not, suggestions are more than welcome.

I have replaced all of the bulbs in the dash on my '03 S40 and I'm here to tell you it is very easy. The three bulbs in the climate control can be bought at the dealer and yes they are expensive. You can take the cover off of the climate control by pulling from the edges. You will then need to unscrew the screws that hold the climate control into the dash. I believe you will have to take the radio out and the radio trim piece off and probably the center console. This is a lot easier then it sounds. On the headlight switch I believe there are two bulbs. You have to remove screws at the bottom and then wiggle the whole unit out of the dash. The bulbs connect at the back.

2002 S40 w/same problem

The furthest dial on the left which is the blower power dial has been out since I bought the car (I share the dream of a car sentiment).

You say to pull from the edges, but are you talking about the two loops that pop out at the bottom? I don't want to try to pop the top part out with a couple of screwdrivers and have that not be the method, if you know what I mean.

Is it alright to just replace the one, or is it just better to be wise and do all three?

Thanks

My thoughts exactly, seems kinda rough to pry it open with a screwdriver...

2002 s40

If I can bring this thread back to life again...

I have all three bulbs out on the heater panal and have now disassembled to get at the bulbs. The front panel does indeed need prising off with a flat blade screwdriver.

Imagine my shock when I go to volvo for the bulbs and they're 7.95 each! £24 to see my heater controls in the dark! Checked Macsen Lamps in Manchester and they advise they have nothing suitable. I've ruled out scrap yards, as they probably won't last if I find any that work.

There must be an alternative, anyone?

Wish I could help stash, bought mine for even more than that (I live in Iceland BTW).

Just keep searching. ;)

I was in the process of changing my dash bulbs to LED when the car got totaled. I just got a bunch of small LEDs from http://www.superbrightleds.com/ (pick your color, they have many) and some resistors (they have a calculator on-line) and was mounting them in the original bulb holders. It is a pain in the butt but it was starting to look good and likely would last beyond the life of the car.

I forget what bulb numbers the S40 uses but superbrightleds might have a direct replacement now. http://www.superbrightleds.com/instrument.html

Thanks gents.
How do I get the bulbs out of the holder, they appear to be fixed in place - I certainly can't pull them out by hand. Wish I wasn't so anal about dash lights! I don't even like this car very much!

Have you removed the cilimate-control unit from the holder? (The white boxy-looking thing with the bulbs sticking out of it).

If so then you need to open it up and use a screw-driver to remove the bulbs from the circuit board directly. Each of them has a slot in which to position the screw-driver and then just turn them half an hour or so and they should become loose.

Sry, if I'm overcomplicating things. Just reply again and if you're still stuck, I'll send pictures. ;)

Well, I've searched high and low but found no alternative that will fit in the bulb holder. Bit the bullet and forked out £23 for the three dash bulbs. Painful, but the dash looks good now! Two days later my fan blower packed up again, pulled the resister device out and refitted the transistor and it works ok now. One of the wires in the assembly looks split so I may have a bad connection.

Yes, stupid high price for a bulb.

You have to pull the metal contact bit to remove the bulb. If mocking up an LED replacement, I think + is on the top circuit board connector. But, won't you loose the ability to dim the lights?

I have to replace the bulbs on my V-40 so I'll be visiting the dealer this weekend.
