Door locks and central locking system headache

so my V70 finally went to Valhalla and i had to buy a get-to-work car -a 2000 S40. the locks in all doors stick like crazy. the central locking system is barely able to pop them open so i have to use the key. they whine and squeal and suddenly shoot open with a lot of noise when they want to open. a bit easier when the sun is on the doors. locking results in the same.

had a similar problem with my v70 and discovered that the reason seemed to be the knobs stuck in those little door panel bushings. so i applied a rolled up piece of sand paper to open up the holes and used a little vaseline to lube them. 80% success.

the s40 seems to be a little different. the knobs have plenty of clearance but the internals seem very, very, stiff and i'm affraid that i'll eventually snap the key. the previous owner apparently was a serious smoker and as a result a lot of dash and console buttons were all gummed up with brown funk. this has taken a lot of work to clean up.

anyway, has anybody experienced this? could the smoking have caused things to gum up? i feel that i'll have to disassemble every door and clean and grease everything up (quite a bit of careful work imo as i hate taking doors apart) might this be the way to go?

thanks!

I believe your initial thoughts are correct. Your car needs some TLC in the form of clean and lube. Try brake cleaner spray to clean then some spray lithium grease to lube and you shouldn't have to take things apart too much. My .02

Also a new S40 owner and have noticed that the key is quite difficult to turn in the lock cylinder both to lock and unlock. Other locks all work fine and no noise but just a very stiff crank on the key to get the tumbler to turn in the drivers door. Almost as if you were turning the key against a stiff spring.
Also have discovered that the security system does not always disarm when unlocking. Unlock from drivers door, flashing led on right front of dash does not shut off and when open the door a loud piercing alarm goes off:mad:. Intermittent and am suspecting what looks to be a 3 wire key cylinder switch on the backside of the lock cylinder.
How does the key turn in your S40 hudini?? Thought was normal for car but key turns super easy in my Mazda Millenia S. Not wanting to compare apples to oranges with Japan to Swede:D Input much apperciated.

I can't remember the last time I used the key in the door lock. The keyless remote always seems to work fine. I did need to lube the ignition lock a couple of times. And the gear selector push button and solenoid always need a good spray due to it's location below the cup holder.

How disable central lock?

Hello all,

I have a 2002 S80 with crazy security system that turns on, on its own and often. I've heard its because siren’s battery is leaking etc etc. I neither have the money nor interest taking it to dealer / garage and wasting 100s of dollar. Is there a way to turn security system completely off?
