Help with shock/strut

I have a 2004 S40 and I have an issue with my right side shock. I replaced my shocks about two years ago and noticed there was a sound coming from the right one. I lifted the hood and when I bounced the car up and down I noticed that the top of the shock had movement. The left one was not moving at all. Would this be a failed shock mount? The sound it makes would make sense. Any idea how much that would cost. As I said I replaced the shocks just a couple years ago and have a hard time believing that they wont last 30,000 miles.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

I have the same type of noise in my '03 S40. It almost sounds like it's coming from inside the dash near the right side defogger area. I have already replaced the right side engine mount, so I'm inclined to think it's my strut or mount.

It does sound like the strut mount and/or strut bearing. Here is an exploded view:

You should start your own thread so as to not hijack the OP's thread. That way folks know who to answer without getting mixed up. :)

Thanks for the pics. We're just two newbies trying to help each other out; I'm not trying to hijack anything brother. Use the quick reply icon on the bottom right of the post you want to reply to.

OP it can be that the top bolt is loose. Did you try to tighten it or see if it was loose enough to loosen or tighten by hand? I found one loose the other day.

@ YYK; When you change the subject from the op's topic, that is considered high jacking a thread. That is what the NEW THREAD button is for. Hudini probably felt like you were changing the subject by talking about noises coming from the dash.
