Default horn not working

Hi ive got a 98 s40 TDi which has been a great car but needs its annual MOT in a few weeks. Unfortunately the
horn has stopped working. Ive checked the threads here and the fuse in the car and theres no voltage at the horn connections. ive removed centre of the steering wheel which houses the airbag and horn connection plates. ive chekd the connection points are making clean contact. I also connected the two wires together to bypass the switch
which doesnt work either.... Does anybody know whether there connections that sit behind the steering wheel??
I can see the copper ring which sits behing the sterring wheel which i assume carries the voltage for the horn..

I took a voltage reading with one of the multi meter probes pressed on the copper ring thru wheel and the other
earthed and it only measured .5v which im sure is supposed to be 12v. Is there any wiring behind the ring ???

Thanks for any help..

Mike

There should be power from the fuse to the steering wheel.
If you have no power at the fuse you won't have it at the horn.

I read a voltage of 12v accross the fuse. do you know how the wires connect to the copper ring behind the steering wheel??

I guessing that i'll have to remove the wheel itself... are there any complications with removing and fitting the wheel back??

I believe someone with Volvo's VIDA software is going to have to erase the trouble codes for you. The trouble codes are causing the warning light to come on.

To remove the steering wheel, mark the wheel and the splined shaft w/ a white out marker or score it somehow so you can line them up exactly when you need to put them back on. be sure not to pinch any wires when re-installing the wheel assembly.

You can pull the covers off around the steering column to gain access to the Contact reel.(Copper ring)
Also check out the wiring diagram if you would like.
