Default interesting starting issue

ok so. i have an interesting starting issue going on here.

car: 2000 s40

issue: first time the car starts up it needs to crank for aprox 10-15 seconds before it will fire, after started for the first time it starts normally, but after it sits for 20 min it cranks again. the temp of the motor does not matter.

what i tried: i have tried leaving the key on so it can build fuel pressure and then starting it.

any ideas?

Pull the hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is fuel in the vacuum line.

Sounds like the common bad fuel pressure regulator.

Now you can buy the metal insert(diaphram) as well as the entire setup.

i found a place with the metal disc. it was $112. i had an interesting idea though....

what is stopping me from just installing an aftermarket adjustable inline fpr? why couldnt i just disable the stock one and bore out the insides and make it just a fitting, not an fpr, then simple put the aftermarket frp inline.... seems to make sense to me, about $70 cheeper (give or take) and i get some adjustability out of it.

After the car sits off for a little while pull the vacuum line off and see if there is gas in there or if it smells like gas in the vacuum line.

ok, now that i got a chance to let the car sit, it is indeed leaking out gas. i orderd up the metal part today for $111+ shipping. not to bad, but still more than i wanted to spend.

My 98' model s40 (turbo model if that makes a difference) does the same, even when i leave just for 2 minutes then try to restart it, the time it stay does not make a difference.

I even have step on the gas pedal nearly all the way down, so is this also the fuel pressure regulator or could it be something else?

that sounds more like its a maf style issue or something...

but inorder to check there is a vacuum line on the bottom half of the fuel pressure reg, pull it off with the car off and see if it drips out fuel (let it sit for 30 min first though) if it drips fuel the fpr is bad, if it is fully dry, then the fpr is just dandy
