Default Iridium Sparkplugs and K&N Airfilter

Hi there,

I just got myself a 2002 S40T (B4204T3) abd I have just done the 105,000 km service. Just wondering if Iridium sparkplugs and a K&N panel filter replacement will improve the performance of the car. Anyone found any improvements with the K&N panel? Appreciate your thoughts on this.

Cheers,

Merrill

With the additional air flow of the K & N filter I think you will improve the performance. It may not be noticeable but it will improve. Also, when you look at it in the long run the K & N is probably cheaper than replacing a paper filter. Don't know about the plugs though.

Do you reckon that the K&N will improve gas mileage in the long term?

I would think so. More air coming into the engine allows it to perform more efficiently. More efficiency = better gas mileage.

Thanks for that! Do you reckon I need to reset the ECU after the filter has been installed or driving around for while will allow the computer to adapt?

Thanks a lot for the advice you have been giving!!

The computer will adapt to the increased air flow. No need to touch the ECU.

just bought 2001 s40.

immediately i change air filter to k&n and last weekend, i changed the spark plugs to iridium lx.

wow, it is very very very noticeable.

highly recommended. ( now, i want to use iridium to my all other cars)

gas mileage improved a bit after using k&n but i have got to the point to check after spark plug change.

Nice one!

I actually ordered a Pipercross panel of Ebay and am waiting for it to arrive. Did you use the NGK BKR6EIX plugs? Did you have to regap the plug before installation?

Cheers!

ngk bkr6eix 6418 and i did not have to adjust the gap.

i used a torque wrench and apply some anti-seize(?) oil.

first time i started, the 'check engine oil' was off. i drove it for a while then it was off. i assume that computer was adjusting something.

Spark plugs will not increases an engines power output unless the ones you're replacing are worn out. It doesn't matter what material or how many electrodes. There is no magic spark plug.
