Default Looking to buy

Now i currently own a land rover and am looking to get a 2004-2005 mainly second gen s40 what are common problems among you guys is this car diy friendly? anything is appreciated

P.s. everyone on edmunds makes this car look like a nightmare is it as bad as they say or is that just people making a stink over nothing?

Edmund's? Usually Cars.com has all the criers. Don't think they are that bad. Let others answer because I have never owned one.

You need to do normal 10 year old car maintenance like timing belt, etc.

The early 2000-2004 models have many of the same problems. The 2004.5 and up are fairly reliable so far. Known issues are PCV system failure (has extended warranty), dim headlight relay burns out, sunroof drain clogging, a/c compressor shims, fuel pressure sensor. All items are DIY friendly with proper tools.

I like my 2005 T5 AWD so far. The timing belt is due at 120k miles. I have been able to fix everything myself. 2007 and up models have connections for an MP3 player and a better AWD system if you get the T5 AWD. Changing the spark plugs is more difficult as you have to remove the intake manifold (so I've read).

Anyone else?

are timing belts as hard as on an audi ex: you have to remove the front of the car.
