loose banging noise coming from LR caliper?
Hi, guys. New to this site and have a slight issue with my 2005 volvo s40 t5 2.5L. It's a strange noise that comes from the left rear caliper when ever i go over bumps in the road. i was hoping to get some advice and maybe resolve my issue. The noise is always constant. Making a metal "clanging" noise when ever this one particular side of my axel goes over a bump(s).im pretty sure its in the brakes because when ever i apply the brake while going over bumps, the noise stops. I brought it to sears auto to have them do a check on it. they seem to think that the cause of my problem are the slide pins and bushings inside the caliper.
any advice what-so-ever would be much appreciated. -nerdist |
Have you had the pads replaced recently?

same noise??
I have what could be the same noise, pads were changed about a month ago coil spring changed at same time as it had broken not there except over certain bumps on local roads
|
Did it start after replacing the pads?
|
Yes noise was not there before work carried out car is a 2000 s40 xs by the way

The 2004.5 and later has two different pads. One with an anti-rattle spring and one without. The one with the spring needs to be the inner pad. I have seen people install them wrong many times and this causes the pad without the spring to rattle. Or, I have seen people use low quality, cheap aftermarket pads that don't have the spring. Then there is nothing you can do.
However, the 2000 should have the spring on both pads. Again, unless low quality parts were used. |
banging
I've got a similar problem on my 850, but its not the brakes. Have you checked your wheel bearing?

noise was found not to be coming from wheel but from exhaust knocking on heat sheild
