hey i was thinking of purchasing a 01 s40 but i noticed that a manual transmission is not available in one i was wondering if there was a way to swap a manual tranny in one and around how much it would cost to do so if it is possible, i really hate automatics and probably wont buy the car if its not possible

You probaly wont be able to find a manual trans. for it unless you import one.If you only want a man. trans. then you will probaly be better off with either an 850 or S70 they are avalible in manual transmission.

I highly advise NOT installing a manual transmission. It is a long, drawn out process that is not worth your money, trust me. I had a friend that did it with a Dodge Stealth and he hates himself for it.

They have to rip out your ENTIRE center panel at the base. Then they have to take all the wiring and knobs out to put in new ones. Then you actually have to buy the new transmission, and that's not something you want. They also have to install a clutch, which is amazingly hard, given you already have your brake and gas spaced out to the point of where they'd have to move that over too.

So yeah, buy a different car.
