OBD-II trouble
My wife just got a new 2007 S40 a few months ago and came home otnight with her first check engine light. I hooked up my actron 9135 , but kept getting a link error. I hooked it up to my car to make sure it still worked and it connected no problem. Any ideas why it wouldn't work? I read something about the scanner not working on CAN bus cars, but I thought OBD-II was a standard. Anyway, I'm at a loss. I'm pretty sure the dealership should pull the codes for free since it's under warranty, but I'd like to know what's wrong for my own benefit. Thanks in advance.

RE: OBD-II trouble
Actron website says all their readers are CAN compliant. If you have an Advance or Autozone nearby you could get them to scan it for you. Since they sell Actron I'm betting you will find out if it's a scanner problem or a compatability problem with the Volvo.

RE: OBD-II trouble
my brother in law who is a mechanic bought a scanner for his personal use, and he couldnt get reading with his either, I believe it's something with our ECU's and their compatibility with certain scanners....

RE: OBD-II trouble
I have been told by Volvo that their OBD-II scanners can read additional information that a typical OBD-II reader cannot.
