P0700 and P0015 and Hanging Threads
 

So I'm pulling both codes from my 2001 S40 1.9T.

It would be nice if people would post their solutions rather than letting threads just hang. I see posts from brizzle1, Armenian, velogrrrl and viktu, but no resolutions. The posts are years old. Are we to assume the problem was never resolved?

So from my research on various threads my options are the following for

P0015 - I'm getting no symptoms. Tried clearing with OBD2 but it reappears within 30-50 miles.
Option 1: ATF or Seafoam flush.
Option 2: Replace VVT control valve

P0700 - Again no symptoms. No problems shifting. No problems with rear lights. Up arrow flashing light appears but again, no transmission issues. No limp mode.
Option 1: Remove battery for an hour to clear code.
Option 2: PNP switch replacement or cleaning
Option 3: Tranny replacement
Option 4: Shifter row. I rowed the shifter while the key was in Position II. This did nothing.

Hopefully, this list of hung threads will save people time. It's pointless to read through all of the hung threads since none of them end with a resolution post.

It would be nice if people followed up with a solution. Many threads are simply forgotten once the problem is resolved.

Hey cisopen, thanks for the renewed thread. I've got the same code coming back, p0015. I also get the p0420, but I don't want to get a new 3-way catalytic converter, as dealeship swears it needs, because vida knows? So I just had an oil change recently, on schedule, since we bought the car fairly new. Last couple of months I've noticed my oil level has been dropping a half to a full quart every month or so. I've got the same kind of car as you, turbo right? And 175,000 miles on it, my car still purrs at idle and has good pick-up, not great like it use to, but still running great. Maybe we should try that ATF stuff that Hudini has mentioned, seafoam huh... Worth a try I guess.

Ok, I went to a Volvo specialist and spent $50 on a diagnostic. Hopefully, this saves money for you clowns.

P0015 (P0015 -- ECM-670C -- Camshaft position, inlet – High) - I'm getting no symptoms. Tried clearing with OBD2 but it reappears within 30-50 miles.

Option 1: ATF or Seafoam flush.
Option 2: Replace VVT control valve

SOLUTION: Replace VVT control valve (also known as CVVT solenoid, camshaft intake valve, Camshaft Reset Valve). It was very easy and took about 30 minutes. I got the part from the dealer. It comes in a kit and includes the gasket. A little wiring is needed but very easy. Just keep the colors matched up. SOLUTION: This one was the one that I was really pissed about. If you don't have any shifting or obvious tranny problems or reverse light problems, look at the W button next to the shifter. Mine was stuck slightly and thus, triggering the code and the flashing arrow. Maybe I searched wrong, but I didn't see this mentioned anywhere on volvoforums or matthews. My Volvo guy said this is a very common problem and normally charge soccer moms hundreds of dollars for this fix.

To fix, you slide off the plastic, polka dotted piece in front of the shifter. Squeeze the two clasps on the plastic piece under and slide off. Next, unclasp the plastic piece that holds the shifter. Use a flash light. There are two clasps at the bottom of the shifter base plastic piece. Unclasp and lift the entire base up off the shifter.

Use some contact cleaner, some canned air and clean around the button. Make sure the car is off. Take the W piece off, by unplugging it from its green electrical connection socket, and clean with clean towel. Put everything back together and make sure the W button goes up and down with ease.

That was it. Again, if you have no obvious tranny problems, look for this sticky W button. If I have time, I'll post pics.

S40 in Fla, I wasn't getting your code and am damn thankful. I did a quick search for the code p0420 on volvoforums and returned a list of hung threads. Ugh.

Have you changed O2 sensors Bank1 and Bank2? They're very easy. You just need an O2 socket which they sell at any parts store. I would try that first.

I doubt the Seafoam or ATF would solve anything. There's always a concrete solution to these things.

There just needs to be an easy checklist to go through when you get thse codes. My Volvo specialist rattled off 3-4 checklist fixes for my P0700 issue and the first thing he mentioned was the W (winter) button sticking. All it took was both of us looking in the car and that was it. He told me how to fix it and I went home and cleaned the button out in about 20 minutes.
