Passed emmission test failed functional test

Hi All: My 2001 s40 reg. expires by the end of March. I took it in with the chekc engine light on (not knowing it will not pass) but the failed message had P0128 (coolant temp below therm rating). It previously have had P0130 as well (though the smog test did not detect it). If I just reset the code and take it in before the 'chekc engine light' comes on, will it pass the smog test. As I mentioned in the title it did pass the emmission testbut failed the functional test...thanks.

That should do it.
But maybe just replace the thermostat and sensor to make sure it doesn't come back at all.

Just replacing my t-stat and erasing the codes fixed mine. Easy fix too; 2 bolts, remove old gasket and t-stat, reverse the process with new gasket and t-stat, all done.

RE: Passed emmission test failed functional test

Thanks for all the valid suggestions. I just cleared the smog...got the code reader from Autozone (free of charge)..cleard the codes, drove 15miles on freeway (as I understand there are 5 monitoring systems that have to complete their monitoring else you get a "monitoring not complete or sensor not ready or some message to that effect). Anyway, I drove at 55-60 m/hr for about 15 miles and went straight to the smog shop. It seems atleast 3 out of5 monitoring systems have to have completed their monitoring...Hope this helps you all in similar situations...good luck.

...one more thing...the drive on the freeway has to be 'brake-free'. If for whatever reason, you end up applying the brakes, the whole monitoring systems/operation resets itself and then you have to go another 10 to 15 miles without using brakes...(again this is the info gathered from various people that either work on the Volvos or have used this technique to pass the smog test themselves)
