Power system service urgent
Hello, i have a 2005 volvo s40 t5. I am having this text that says power system service urgent and a red indicator light with red battery light on. Just curious if a new battery will fix this or is the Alternator going to need replaced? Thank you.
My 2007 S60 2.5T has the same problem. I replaced the alternator with one made for the American market and found, once I crossed the original part's number mine was made for the European market. I finally got the right one and the light went out for a while but now when we have particularly wet weather, it comes back on. It just lasts a day or so. Quite annoying. I'm thinking moisture is getting to a connection somewhere. Any connections I should look at to correct this?
Another poster said their trouble code would not go away until they replaced the alternator with a genuine Volvo unit. If yours works and does not set the trouble code on most days then you are ahead of the game.
Hi. I'm having troubles with my 2010 S40, Power System Urgent. Volvos shop replaced with Reman Bosch alternator. Went bad in a few weeks. Replaced with the Denso Reman and light went away for a few days. Brand new battery and the light still appears. My reading is that when the voltage differs more than +/- .1V that the light comes on with the message. I monitor it, real time, and it likes to home itself at 14.1V. But when it drops (13.9, 13.7, 13.6) the light comes on. Thought a battery temp sensor would help. There was no battery temp sensor nor any connector... Anyone have any insight into how to remedy this?
Volvo v50 power system service urgent intermittent message question Engine off, 12.6 volts. Idle 14.6- 14.8V Same at all reasonable engine speeds. Same with nothing on and same with everything: lights, seat heat, rear defrost, A/C... etc ON. If fluctuates +/- 0.2V as I turn on/off accessories, or rev engine, but stabilizes rapidly (1-2 seconds) at ~14.75V. Is this too much? Will I cook my 1 year old battery?
I just replaced my alternator twice on my 2005 S40. The first time I replaced a lifetime warranty unit from Advance Auto (CarCraft brand) with another after about 3 years of service. This replacement unit worked well for about a day then gave the power system service urgent message. It was charging as it should but my car did not like something about this alternator. So next I ordered a "new" unit from Amazon. This alternator was listed as new but when it arrived it was actually remanufactured. I installed it anyway and it has performed perfectly in the last 2 weeks.
If you have a local shop that can repair the original unit I would go that route first.
