Is there a procedure or diagram that shows how to remove and replace the passenger side and drive side drive axles/CV Joints?

How about a diagram / procedure for replacing the timing belt?

It might be important to identify which year/engine/trans?

On my 2001 1.9T/Auto trans I followed the Hayne's manual for the UK version. Purchased the manual from IPD http://www.ipdusa.com/ .

It's fairly simple and is very much like all FWD cars I've worked on. The nut holding the axle to the knuckle is very tight so I used a bit of heat from a cutting torch. Not much, 4 or 5 seconds applied to the nut. The rotor is held with a screwdriver stuck in the middle vent area so it hits the caliper and cannot move. Now you can break the nut free with a large breaker bar. It's something like 140 lb/ft of torque so you need a bit of weight. Always use gravity to your advantage, never pull up, if possible you can simply stand on the breaker bar and it will give. From there it's simply unbolting things until the knuckle/strut combo can be pulled clear of the axle. The axle is then simply popped out of the trans. Installation is reverse making sure the axle seats inside the trans.

If you have a 2001 or newer V70 there is no axle nut. There is only an 8mm bolt that holds the axle to the hub. You may have read the DIY where you are not supposed to have to remove the caliper or the tie rod end. Let me tell you that this is not true. You will need to remove the caliper, and disconnect the tie rod end as well as removing the strut bolts to the spindle. This is a pretty straightforward job. I did my passenger side tonight because I stupidly tore the inner boot. It took me 1.5 hours start to finish, and cost me about 150 bucks. It's a simple job if you have the correct tools, and is fairly simple to do. Oh, and don't forget to remove the wheel speed sensor prior to yanking the spindle around too.

You just responded to a two year old thread.

Did you replace the complete axle? Hang on to the old axle - don't turn it in as a core. The OEM axle is vastly superior in quality to the Chinese aftermarket axles. You'll need the old axle when the Chinese axle starts to vibrate before long.

Who cares how old a thread is if it contains pertinent information, or contains inaccurate information on how to do something? Chinese axle? No, I purchased a locally remanufactured Volvo axle. God, I love how some people jump to an inaccurate conclusion.

If you paid $150.00 for a rebuilt Volvo axle, you got a smoking deal. Where'd you buy it?

It was remaned by a local shop here in Central Florida.
