S40 2.4L petrol ‘05 where is the fuel filter located? (UK)
Hi guys, I’m new here. Just hoping someone might be able to advise me where the fuel filter on my S40 is located. Ok I’m the UK for reference, and it’s an S40 2.4L petrol ‘05 model. I’ve had a good look under the car and for the life of me can’t find it! The car currently has a fault, which I believe is “fuel pressure sensor” and I’m trying to fix it myself. Thought I’d try the cheapest fuel part first... Thanks in in advance for your help, dirtychinchilla |
It's underneath the car back by the tank area on my 2005. I would think yours is near the same area. If you cannot see it clearly it might be hiding behind a plastic cover.
Probably not going to fix a fuel pressure sensor problem though. Tell us how it goes? |
Morning, thanks for that. Which side is it on? I spent ages looking on the driver side and couldn’t find anything! It probably won’t the pressure sensor issue, but I think for £8 it’s worth trying. Not sure what I’ll try next to be honest. |
Should be easy enough to find the cannister - its about 3 inches around, 4-5 inches long. Also check Youtube for vids / google for pics. +1 on Hudini noting the filter is not likely to cause the fault code. I'd start by looking in front of the rear wheels / under rear right passenger seat area..
As to the likely cause, here's a vid on how to replace the fuel pressure sensor |

As to the likely cause, here's a vid on how to replace the fuel pressure sensor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZkBeSE9kwE However, I changed the fuel pressure sensor on Saturday - super easy - and the fault has now gone, which is wonderful. So thank you very much once again. |
just to note, not all newer Volvos have a fuel filter. the cannister is pretty generic - 4 inches long, 3 inches round with the fuel lines running in and out of the ends - usually in the back in front of the rear wheels. If you don't see it, no worries, you may not even have one :-)

Yup I couldn't find it at all!! I did some research beforehand and was convinced I knew where it was, but half an hour of searching later I still couldn't find it. And, of course, managed to fix it by replacing the sensor :D
