s40 codes help plz
 

ok so i have a 2000 volvo s40 and the CEL came on and flashing. So i took it down to autozone to check what it was and i had these codes.

P0303:cylinder 3 misfire
P0107: manifold absolute pressure or barometric pressure


I took and changed the spark pugs all 4 of them. I started the car and tryed again and it still was doing the same thing . Checked the codes again and still the same. Im going to change the core tomorrow and see if that changes anything. Please I need some more ideas what to do if that doesnt work.

From the codes and the rough running maybe your MAP sensor is toast or the electrical connector came off.

I was driving mine today when it seemed like the accelerator just quit working until I completely let off the pedal and re-engaged it. This happened multiple times during a pretty short trip (maybe 10 miles max). I've been letting my teenage son drive the car, so this may have been happening a lot more frequently and he "forgot" to mention it. :rolleyes:

Pulled codes as soon as I got home, and sure enough I got P0303 and P0107. I replaced the MAP sensor a few months ago, so I'm thinking it's not the issue. But I do not know when the last time plugs and wires were replaced. The car's got 173K on the clock, so it's seen better days.

Anybody else confirm that a plugs/wires swap fixes these codes?

Just changed plugs and coils, still got a P0107. This is not fun. :(

I believe you have 2 MAP sensors on the 2000 model. Did you change both of them? One is located on the intake under the small plastic cover on the fuel rail. The other is on the intercooler at the top in the picture above.

The one under the fuel rail doesn't look the same as this. Am I missing something?

I think I am a bad source of information. After looking up the MAP on the IPD website I see there is also a Barometric Altitude Sensor which appears very similar to the MAP. Check this link and see if it's what you are looking at on your engine.

I took the gold plug out to look at it and it appears to be a temperature sensor. Still trying to confirm though. I kept my original MAP sensor and reinstalled it (the one under the fuel rail). The car seems to run fine with it in, so I'm not sure if replacing it had any affect before. I'll run it this way for a little while and see what happens.

Did you replace the map sensor under the fuel rail by yourself? If so, did you have to take the fuel rail out?

I was able to remove the 2 bolts holding the fuel rail and finesse the 10mm bolt lose and hand unscrewed it the rest of the way. Ordered a Barometric Altitude Sensor when I needed Boost Pressure Sensor. Although they look very similar they do have different wire harness connectors. Looks like 2000 volvo v40 only has 1 sensor need to call ipd to confirm.
