S40 T5 oil leak under starter area
Hi I noticed my car picked up a small oil leak, at first I suspect the oil trap but upon further inspection I found it to be coming from under the starter area on the block. I have never worked on this motor before but from what I can see, it seems the block split into 2 pieces, upper and lower and the leak seems to be coming from the seal joining the two.
What year S40? My 2001 1.9L turbo car had a leak at the o-ring where the turbo oil return pipe entered the block. It's a tight fit too getting my hands up there to remove the 2 torx screws holding the pipe to the bottom of the turbo.
The newer 2.5L turbo cars are sure to have some kind of oil return pipe too. Just haven't had any cause to look at mine yet.

Oil return is on the back side under the turbo so no help there.
On the front is the oil filter housing. Did you have your oil changed lately? There is an o-ring on the filter housing that could possibly leak. New filter elements come with a new o-ring.
Below the oil filter is the infamous PCV system, aka air/oil separator box. This is infamous for clogging and causing your engine to whistle from the oil dipstick. Your car making noise with the dipstick fully seated?
