Hello,
I have also started having problems with starting my 2001 Volvo S40. When I turn the key it sounds like it wants to start but then doesn't turn over. If I hold my foot on the gas pedal while starting it, it will keep it going but as soon as Itake my foot off the pedalit stops.
I saw some people experienced the same issues andothers recommended getting the fuel pressure regulator changed or the engine coolant temperature sensor changed.
Has anyone had this done and did it fix the problem? Please let me know.

you might also want to look into a new fuel filter, check your spark plugs and check your batter fluid...just to be safe if you get it started, make sure you have a full tank of gas and put some fuel system cleaner in there

 

also check your battery.. look for some loose connection - if ever try to clean everything.. good luck give us an update of what other things did you notice..

 

Well I changed out my spark plugs, the air filter, and added somefuel cleaner stuffto my gas tank...(not really sure of the name of the stuff)and the car seems to be starting ok now. Last week I was out of town and didn't start my car for a few days. When I returnedit took me 2 tries to get the car going but it did and has been working ok since.
