Volvo plugs vs autolite plugs

I bought some new sparkplugs for my 2002 Volvo s40. They were the right make(autolite) and size and they were platinum.

My Volvo repairman refused to put them in. He said since this engine is turbo-chanrged that I should use Volvo iridium plugs.

I bought them (they were twice the cost of the autolite plugs), but they were Volvo and iridium.

My questions is for a turbo-charged Volvo does one really need to use iridium plugs? Also must one use Volvo plugs?

Thanks in advance.

Any help appreciated.

Respectfully,

Iridium plugs did come stock with the 1.9L turbo engines. They are superior to platinum in a turbo application for spark blowout and detonation prevention. You can use any brand though.

Go with the OEM or recommended spark plugs your repairman SAYS!

No joke, I did the dumb cheap way and the engine when starting it it would barely start at all!!!!

When my mechanic looked at it and changed the spark plugs and showed me the old one's. One was cracked around the base of the porcelain and jiggled freely. That was a cause of poor idle and hard to start the engine problems.

The reason it happened is the high current running through the spark plugs, which caused it to crack.

My recommendation is listen to your mechanic if he knows what he is doing. Or else you WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!!

Use OEM or a known and proven equivalent.

I hope you take note and do research first before consider the price.

Hope this helped you! :D

My experience is that you should use genuine Volvo plugs for these engines. Never had an issue with OEM plugs but have an issue with other brands.
