Volvo S40 stopped loading CDs
 

Hi all
I have a Volvo S40 since 2005 and I have a problem with the 6 CD stereo.
I had 4 cds loaded and when I chose to change the cd eg from 1 to 2, it ejected CD1 and wouldn't load it back. I changed into 2 and again it ejected it. Finally, I ejected all CDs and I can no longer insert a CD.
When I try, the CD enters and comes out with message Disc unreadable.
Anyone knows what's wrong with it?

Are you using home burned CDs or store bought? If you burn your own, try burning a new CD using the slowest write speed with the overwrite option. Otherwise, buy a CD lens cleaner kit to see if that helps.

They were home burned but they were working for years without problems. I have tried an original yesterday but it had the same luck.
I don't think the lens cleaner will help because it will be ejected too in no time.

Unfortunately CD,DVD and Blue Ray players all have a limited time , they are not used anymore as most cars outlast them , if you use it a lot then a CD player is good for 5-6 years and the rest 10 years max , laser pick up wears out, belts slip or break , motors break, etc
I tried to fix one once with a new laser pick up , it lasted 2 months then the same problem

Do you know which aftermarket player I can buy to replace it? I mostly want one with SD card and Bluetooth. I don't need the CD.
I have tried the FM transmitter option but it's horrible. Even if there is no interference the sound is not good.

Check out Crutchfield.com to see what they carry. Also, Grom makes an adaptor that uses the Volvo's CD changer port to add blue tooth and or a line in port (say you want to stream from your phone).

I have checked both.
I have just found mr12volt has a device to add Bluetooth, USB, micro SD, microphone via the fiber optic of the CD player.
I need some confirmation from them and I will probably buy that device.
