Wheel Removal, Am I missing something?
 

Hey guys my girlfriend called me up she had a blow out on her way home from work. She has a 2005 volvo s40 t5. So I show up and I after figuring out how to use that strange jack, and removing the 5 lug nuts, I can't get the darn wheel off. Am I missing a bolt somewhere? The damn thing wouldn't budge.

It seems people do not like to answer "simple" questions on this forum... so I'll help you out.

The wheels on the volvos sit inside a recessed area, for lack of a better term, and over time becomes "stuck".

You just need to hit the outside of the wheel, pretty hard, all around the entire wheel. Eventually it should start to work its way free.

I use my leg with my back to the wheel, and kick backwards on the outside of the wheel all around, back and forth until it finally moves. It hurts your leg though so be cautious as I'm sure you do not have a large rubber mallot

Clean the hub if you can as well. There is usually a rust build up on the hub that causes the wheel to stick.

BTW it not that people do not like to answer "Simple" questions. Not everyone goes through every post on here. I try the best I can to look all of the post made every day on this forum. But sometimes things happen and I can not get to every one made every day. 3 to 5 pages a day is alot to go through.

It is not uncommon for alloy wheels to stick to the hub. Corrosion forms due to the dissimilar metals. As mentioned above, clean the hub. A wire brush works well. Additionally, you can use spread a very thin layer break grease around where the wheel mounts to the hub.

If you haven't gotten the wheel off yet, make sure the car and jack are good ans sturdy and try giving it a good kick. If that does not work then put the lug nuts on but keep them loose. Gently lower the jack to allow the wheel to take the weight of the car. It should break the rust bond and you'll be in business.
