01 s60 T5 Cranks but no start

Hi all,

I have a 2001 s60 T5, 5sp that appears to not be getting fuel. I was driving along just fine, then it lost power, I pulled over and it would not start. I checked for fuel pressure at the rail and nothing was there. I also cannot hear the fuel pump priming when I turn the ignition on. The fuel pump was recently replaced because the old one was leaking, however, the fuel filter was not changed. I checked the fuel pump fuse, it was fine. I also tried tapping on the fuel pump and fuel filter to no avail. The tank is about half full. (I'm sure of this based on the tripmeter). It has never had trouble starting before. The battery if good and there appears to be spark as well.

Could a clogged filter cause this? I figure that is the easiest to replace, and the actual pump seems unlikely because it it basically brand new.

Are there other fuses or relays that could affect the fuel pump?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, even more troubling, it started right up this morning like nothing was ever wrong...

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior and know the cause? Electrical Gremlins? Alarm System? Bad Fuel Filter?

It then shut off and wouldn't start again after about 10 minutes...

Sounds like a intermittent fuel pump relay. Could also be a fuel pressure regulator relay. Search both engine and trunk relays. There are some alike. Just do a quick swap.

Thanks for all of the replies, but I'm pretty sure I have it figured out. It was the new fuel pump. It must have been the wrong model for a T5 or just faulty. I picked a new fuel pump up from the dealer in town, who cross-referenced the VIN, Thursday at lunch and was driving happy by Friday morning. Actually drove 200 miles away for the holiday weekend and it never had a problem, in fact it seemed to run smoother!

Yeh I just installed a alternator from autozone. It didn't work so i went with oem. Glad you got it.
