07 s60 shuts off while driving, have to park to restart

This has happened a couple times now- at various speeds, under various conditions. I'm driving and everything is fine, then without warning, the engine shuts off. It wont just restart either. I have to coast to a stop and put it in park, then I can restart it. SOOO DANGEROUS! This happened while on the interstate with my 3 kids in the car. Any advice? What could it be?

No diagnostic codes show up either

05 V70 Does the same thing, shuts down after about 15 min

Our V70 will start and run fine. After 15 or so minutes there is a loss of power and it will die even while applying fuel. This is regardless of speed (though I believe it happens most frequently after driving at highway speeds for a bit.) The car will restart but needs to sit for a moment. I find that sometimes it is possible to over supply it with fuel and get beyond the trouble. I have done all major maintenance on the vehicle including replacing the breather box, timing belt. Tried cleaning the air intake and had the CEM tested and reloaded. Codes include 0300, 0089, 0191, and 0190.
Any info is greatly appreciated

That is very dangerous and I had something similar happen twice to me but the engine didn't stall. I just didn't have any power and coasted to a stop. Please keep us updated on the issue. People need to know the cause.

This has happened to me twice now on my 02 S60 2.4 AWD. Goes to reduced performance. Pull over, put it in park, shut it off, and start it right back up and it is fine. No CEL, no codes at all.

Need to have the throttle body checked. It is located right under your intake manifold. Hope this helps.

These are strange problems to diagnose. The fact that the car completely stalls out makes me wonder if this is a fuel delivery issue. If the throttle body went dead, there would be enough of an air gap to at least let it idle.

Losing either spark of fuel, here's where a scan tool comes in. Drive the car and have a friend monitor the data pids, see if anything "blips" when you drive.

have you figured out what your issue is because my car does the same thing. I have a 05 volvo s60 2.5t. Except it only ever said reduced engine performance one time! I reset the computer and didn't deal with the problem for a long time, now it does the same thing but it doesn't pop up that it's reduced engine performance

Check your fuel pressure. I have the 05 S60 2.5t that does this. It only got worst as time goes along. You'll come to a day that it will not start with out removing the battery cable. My fuel pressure is all over the place, 35, 75,45,60,30,55. It is either the pressure sensor or fuel pump control module. I made the mistake of checking the fuel pressure only and replacing the pump. 2 weeks later it does it again. Removed the control module and opened it finding aluminum oxide and chips all over inside. cleaned and painted the heat sink, cleaned out all the oxide and replaced unit. Lasted 2 weeks before doing same thing. I'll update this once I figure out my problem. Good luck.

Hi I am facing the same problem with my Volvo S60 D5 Diesel, how did you manage to fix this issue? Please share. I really need help.

Have a 2006 S60. Had same issue. Put a used fuel pump in but cleaned the filter inside the fuel pump. Apparently my fuel pump was getting hot because it was clogged up. There is a filter inside the fuel pump.

Yeah I changed my Fuel pump in the tanks, all good now. Cost a fortune

My 08 S60 2.5T was doing this for a short time and we figured out it was a fuel pressure issue. Changed the sensor on the end of the fuel rail and it solved the problem. It’s one bolt and a electrical connector.
