09 S60 A/C problems

I have a 2009 S60 2.5T and a few weeks ago my A/C has been inconsistently working. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what makes it works and what doesn't; at times it works perfectly or it doesn't work at all. There is no in between it either blows air or it doesn't. When it does it can blow hot or cold or on high or low, so I'm not sure what could be preventing the A/C from working. Sometimes 5 minutes into the ride it'll cut on unexpectedly, sometimes longer, and sometimes it won't work at all. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re-shim the Clutch. Volvo clutch spacing is set at .040 where most A/C clutches are spaced around .020. The clutch is only pressing on the inside of the clutch plate (closest to the shaft). After the clutch ages it has difficulty engaging, by reducing the spacing the clutch plate will grab the whole pressure plate. If you take it to a dealer or shop they will only want to replace the A/C pump. Just remove the center bolt with the compressor on the car. Remove the clutch plate, using a dentist tool or pick remove the shim/shims. You may need to purchase a shim kit to accomplish this. I always save all my old shims from dead compressors before returning for core charge. Try Arizona AC kits for shims.
