18" rims - tires rub at full lock
I have a 2006 s60 T5 2wd. It has the optional 18" wheels. Just installed dunlop supersport 235/40R18 tires and they rub the wheel well at full left and right steering lock. Tire dealer says alignment is dead on and all wheel well plastic is in correct position. The previous tires (pireilli) did not have this issue. any ideas? could it be that tires from one brand fit correctly but another brand not so, even though they are the same size tire size?

It's normal.

JP thanks but what's normal? Tire rub at full lock certainely doesn't sound like its normal. same sized tires from different brands with different real sizes. Is that normal?
Can anyony suggest a reasonablly priced replacement for the original pirelli"s |
JP is right, its completely normal. All the dealers know its a 'known issue' however I do not believe there was a total fix for it. I even went as far as to replace the bumps on the lower A-arm and that did not remedy this problem. I am running the 17" Thor's on my 02 T5.
Just something I have to live with like the crappy Geartronic tranny I have...lol |
If you remove the steering stops and put a few washer behind each bolt to push it out this will stop the rub. This is a issue with all S60 that have 17" + rims even with stock rims.Any tire with a "heavy" outside tread patten will rub even on stock 17s

the bad thing about putting the shims behind the bolts to bring the stops out is that if you continue to turn them to full lock then they will eventually break and make the noise louder. You should never turn your wheels to full lock. I know my S60R does it too.
