2002-2004 S60 R Best Mileage to Buy
I have owned VW Golf, SAAB 900, PT Cruiser GT and now, looking to buy a S60 R. Don't like the newer Volvos and also looking for a tape/casette player 
Is it wise to go for a Volvo that has gone the major 100k maintenance service rather than the one that has clocked 75-90k?

2001 and 2002 s60's are plagued with transmission slipping problems. Not as severe in the later models.
I have a 02 s60. I got the dreaded transmission slip between 2nd and 3rd gear at about 100k. I bought a salvaged 03 V70 transmission (50k on it) and had it replace years ago (about $2,000). Car now has 175k on it and the transmission seems to be fine. Knock on wood. I didn't know about this until later after scouring these forums of these issues in the 01-02 models. Not saying it can't happen in the later ones. But personally I would 01-02 by all means.
