2002 S60 2.4T Brake Light Issue
I have one brake light out on the right side. It's the one on the very end of the panel pointing toward the side of the car. The "Check Stop Lamp" and "Bulb Failure Position Light" messages are both displayed on the dash as well. I find it very odd that it's only that one light. I've changed the bulbs and checked the fuses/relays. I didn't they would be blown since both of the brake lights are on the same fuse.
My initial hunch was that it was maybe a bad section of the circuit board but I swapped the right and left side and the problem was still on the right. I've searched a lot but I can't find anything that only involves ONE light. Could it be a wiring issue? I'm trying to avoid taking it to a dealer since I'm going out of town soon plus the expense, but I might not have a choice since most shops don't diagnose the Volvo computers.

Lol. I was messing around with the relays just to double check, I took RMI5 out and put in RMI4 (back-up lights) in its place. It was still out and I kind of tapped the part of the tail lens plastic outside of the car where the bulb is, and it flickered! I smacked it harder and it lit up and stayed on. I put RMI5 back in and its staying on every time I push the pedal down now. There is a small crack in the lens on the side where the bulb is so maybe it came loose? I have no idea. At least I got it working
. The "Bulb Failure Position Light" message is still on the dash though. I checked all my other lights and they work. Maybe a reset would help.

I believe there are two red brake lights on the rear. This actually happened to me about a year ago. I had the damn warning message on my 02 s60. I several times had someone push down the brake pedal so I could look at the back. I couldn't see during the day. Finally one night I was leaving my parents and my pops tole me the bottom part of my brake light looked out. So it turned out there was a second red bulb out.
Not sure if this helps but might be something to check. The one thing that does stink about these era Volvo's are they are notorious for burning out bulbs and electrical gremlins so to speak.
