Hello all...some may remember me from several posts about a year or so ago when I had some issues with my car stalling out at stop signs or stop lights. Thanks to this forum, I was able to diagnose the problem as a map sensor....and have been fine ever since, at least in that respect.
Well, now it seems as if I have a similar issue, however the pattern is completely different. The last two times I filled up my tank, from empty to full, my car has stalled out rt after starting it. Basically rt after I'm done filling up and start it, it shuts off.
The first time this happened, it shut off...I retried it gave it a lil gas so the idle wouldn't fail and it drove fine to my destination. Once parked I attempted to restart it...but it did not wk. I let it sit for about a day,it started up fine and I shut it off. I tried again immediately after, however no dice.
1 tow, a new starter and 500 bucks later...I still have the same problem.
Last night I had to fill up, from empty to full, and the same exact thing happened. I started it, the idle failed and shut off. I retried, gave it a lil gas and it drove fine to my destination. Only difference is this time I had a longer drive, about 30 minutes as opposed to my 5 minute drive last time. Once parked, I retried several times and it started up just fine. Today, no problems at all.
I have a new starter and starter relays...so I imagine its not that. My check engine light has been cleared twice in the last year, but comes rt bk on in a few days. I'm on my way to autozone for the code, but was hoping someone would have some insight for me when I return.
Thank you in advance for your time and effort.
Nicolas

Hey tech, Thanks for the speedy response! Just got bk, the code is as follows:
p0441
definition-evap, small leak, no flow condition.
probable causes:
1. defective, loose fuel cap
2. evap canister or hose cracked-not connected
3. purge or vent solenoid defective.
4. vaccuum leak @ engine
Does this make sense in your opinion? If so, how would u proceed?
Thanks again!

Hey Tech.... Well, it looks as if that problem is still there. I went to fill up the other day, this time with about five gallons left in the tank...and it started to fail on me but I gassed it and kept it running. I just changed the gas cap and also purchased a fuel filter which I am going to attempt to put on this wknd. I will keep you guys posted, thanks for all the help.

I had the same problem and took it to Volvo to run the diagnosis.
I was told that one of evap valve was bad and it needs to be replaced.
$190 labor + $42 part (it was like a t-shaped electrical switch sitting on/under radiator). He said it controls the mixture of gas and air.
He gave the exact part number so that I was able to buy the part next door at Volvo part shop, but did not get it replaced at Volvo.
I refueled just once since the repair was done, and I had no problem this afternoon.
