2004 S60 -104,000 mi. It feels hot to touch?
Our son just bought a nice looking Original owner well maintained 2004 S60. We brought it to Midas before purchasing for an Pre-Sale inspection. The engine and tranny check out fine. No noise, great pick up, no oil leaks, no shaking or noise in the engine, under the hood checked out perfectly. Aside from rotors having a lip now b/c when new brake pads were installed in dec 2014 at Volvo they didn't replace the rotors so it show wear on the rotors now but no noise or trouble braking. Car panned out to be a good purchase for him.
We are just wondering if anyone experienced this? When the car is running or you turn it off, The temperature gauge is in the normal position straight up in the middle. No overheating underneath the hood however, if you touch the front of the hood on the passenger front side it feels very hot to touch but no smoke?
Any idea what this could be?

is the insulation missing under the hood or not properly snapped in place? I don't own an S60 so I can't directly compare but my 850 and S40 have insulation there. then again it could just be the proximity of the upper coolant hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing near the front (passenger side) of the engine. As long as the temp guage reads normal you should be ok. These cars do run a pressurized coolant system with a 210-220 degree normal operating temp.
