2005 S60 brake shoes
I am going to replace the brakes all the way around on my 2005 S60 2.5T. It looks like I have to buy a 7mm hex tool to do the brakes at all. I have done pads/rotors on another car, but I have never done brake shoes before. Assuming I can get the rear rotors off, are there any tricks to the brake shoes? Do I need to open up the console to get at any springs or other junk to release the E-brake, etc.? Any help is appreciated. The dealer wants $620 just for the rear job and $550 for the front. I figure I can do all four corners for $400.

7MM HEX is the only "special" tool you will need to release the calipers. I just did my rear hub and the ebreak shoes were in pieces. This took some time to get the rear rotor off. But with a little time flash light and a small screw driver they came off. But if the pads are intact the rotor should just slide off.I did not have to do anything special as far as cable length goes. But make sure that when you get e-break shoes buy the springs with it.When removing the rear rotors the springs were stretched and they fell apart.Other than that pretty straight forward break job.Replacing the springs is a little tricky so a pair of needle nose pliers will be a great help.
