Default 2005 Volvo S60 2.5T FWD Stability Traction Control

I am still confused about Volvo's STC. In many of today's American and Japanese cars, traction control is offered as standard equipment with stability control as an option.

Is Volvo's STC basically Traction Control or both Stability and Traction Control combined.

Since my car is only FWD, would STC be more effective than basic Traction Control on a FWD vehicle.

Clarification would be appreciated.

It is both. The traction control works at low speed to limit wheel spin on slippery surfaces by employing a combination of engine timing retarding and individual brake application to whichever front wheel is spinning. Stability control involves individual brake application to any of all 4 wheels for the purpose of correcting a skid.
