2008 S60 Low Beam Bulb

About a month ago, my driver's side low-beam bulb went out. I picked up a replacement from Autozone, then proceeded through the pain of replacing it (using some online instructions for removing the air filter to get to it). It worked for about a week, then went out again.

Before I run out and buy another bulb, then go through the chore of replacing it again, does anybody know what's going on here?

Yeah, my 2004 S60 2.5T eats low beam bulbs like crazy too. I need to change one at least every 5 to 6 months but changing it within a week sounds like a problem to me. I assume you made sure not to touch the bulb with your fingers when mounting it right? Also I never had to remove the air filter on mine so replacing the bulbs is a very easy job. Your 2008 must have a different design. Which S60 model is yours?

It's a 2008 S60 2.5T. The air filter housing is right behind the headlight and needs to be removed to get to it.

Actually, I did touch the glass part - can that cause the bulb to fail?

Thanks for your response.

Absolutely. The oils on your finger prints will make hotter spots on the class of an halogen bulb than the rest of the bulb and will shorten the bulb's life.

i had an issue with a friends car, he touched the bulbs when he replaced them and the glass of the bulb actually melted!

these things will get hotter than you think
but if you happen to touch the glass take some plain old paper towel and some 90%+ isopril alcohol and clean it as good as you can

Thanks to you both - I'll change it out this weekend. Any best brands to look for?
