2012 volvo s60 Maintenance Overdue reset?
 

just joined the forums since i just got a 2012 volvo s60 T5. so far i am loving the car and of course the safety features it comes with.

but so far i want to post on how to reset the "Maintenance Overdue" message on dash? i know i would have to take it to a volvo dealership but nearest one from me is 3 hours away. i work 3 jobs and do not have the time to just drive to a dealership for hardly one hour when there is a simpler way of resetting.

Found this video this morning, when i attempt to follow instructions, the first beep gives me error 163 - but doesnt reset message. Even tried in T1

I would NOT do that with this year of S60 T5. Why?

Because if you hit this issue below then Volvo may not offer any kind of Goodwill because you neglected to do the maintenance on your car. Also, make sure all maintenance is done at a Volvo dealer. Those getting Goodwill are doing it. Those not, didn't have the car serviced by Volvo.

Just an FYI for those who don't know. Be very cautious of your oil levels and check them every time you fill the car up with gas.

First thing i had this car for 3 months now and had the oil changed twice proffesionally. So if im still "neglecting" my car then your definition differents then most of us.

Second: if you bothered to even read my OP i said i work three jobs and nearest volvo dealership is 3 hours away, from your reply i am assuming you are either rich or have too much time on my hand.

Im thinking of trading in the volvo since the minor querks that cant be fixed by anybody "but" volvo and i think this is ridiculous

You should trade it in before you break that car since it sounds like you don't have the money or time to fix it or take care of it properly. You will be stuck with a piece of junk unless you have $5k to replace the piston rings or $12k to replace the motor. Many people are having that issue specifically with the 2012 S60 T5 and are still doing the recommended maintenance and Volvo is giving them issues (like me). If they knew you reset the maintenance warning without paperwork showing maintenance, it won't be in your favor.

I'm not trying be nasty and generally Volvos are very reliable cars. Just this year / make / model you don't want to mess around with when it comes to maintenance. Watch your oil levels very carefully.

One guy on the internet had a valve fail and that makes it a major issue?

It's more likely to be tied to the TJ you found that doesn't affect all cars, but I've counted over 10 people online. That's pretty high considering not that many 2012's are out there. Not everyone posts online, and not everyone has 60-70k miles on a 4 yr old car. That's a lot more than 1. Most likely a bad PCV valve or defective piston rings perhaps? Either way, I wouldn't defer maintenance on this car and just turn off the warning light. Could come back to bite ya later.

None of that will cause a "broken" exhaust valve.

Again, lots of misinformation on the internet. People post about their problems when they often are summarizing what they were told to the best of their ability but they don't really understand what the problem is, what caused it, what the fix is, etc. Its like a big game of telephone. Then it gets spread from forum to forum as if it is gospel and then eventually someone thinks all 2012 S60 T5s burn oil and "break" exhaust valves.

I haven't tried it personally and your results may vary from the video. I'm more familiar with older vehicles, on one of mine I just jump two pins in the on-board diagnostic plug and it resets all the service indicators.

58k was vacuum leak. 68k when oil issue was discovered it was a defective PCV. It was clogged. Don't know why it was clogging. Having diagnostics done tomorrow hopefully. If oil is getting past the rings then maybe that's it? Don't know.
