2016 V60 Geartronic sport mode question
When I had sport mode on my Jaguar the way it worked was that the transmission shift points changed and held a bit longer before shifting. I've owned my V60 for about 1.5 years and only used the sport mode on a few occasions. When using sport mode I would move the shift **** forward to change gears.
Recently it came to my attention that the car can shift automatically while in sport mode, the shift points are changed but once it hits 4th gear it will stop shifting upward. The "S" symbol stays illuminated through all gears. Once you use the shift **** to change gears things change. The "S" on the dash disappears and is replaced with the gear number and it will no longer automatically shift at a higher shift point. The car just stays in the current gear.
Once the car comes to a full stop the "S" on the dash is again illuminated and the sequence mentioned above starts again.
From the manual it all sounds about right except for not shifting past 4th gear.
"Geartronic: Sport mode (S) 7
This transmission mode provides sportier shifting characteristics and enables a more active driving style by making it possible to drive at higher rpm in each gear before shifting up. The engine also responds faster when
the accelerator pedal is pressed. To access Sport mode from Drive (D), move the gear selector to the left. The transmission will not switch to manual shifting mode until the gear selector is moved forward or rear-ward toward + or –. Sport mode can be selected any time."

- Is the described sport shift operation normal?
- Should it never change automatically shift gears?
- If it is to automatically shift gears should it go above 4th gear?
