Default About to chang Timing Belt, some last questions

I am going to change my timing belt and water pump. I am wondering if people have experience with the kit from FCP groton:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/201

A local mechanic gave me some advice and showed me a tool to keep the dual cams in place, like this:

http://automotive.neebo.org/dual-overhead-cam-lock-tool

Is this really needed or are there other tricks to keep the cams from moving ?

Also, I am wondering, is there anything else I should change while I am at it ? For example the drive belt ?

Thanks,

Mark.

I do not use the cam lock tool ever. If you want to you can mark the back of the pulley and top of motor. Then remove the belt. When putting the new one on make sure the marks line up.

Check the drive belt for cracks. If there is any replace it.

That looks like the same kit that I just used (Continental belt) except I didn't get the one with the water pump. It worked fine for me.

I didn't use or need a cam lock tool either. Per the info that I sent you, there are notches in the upper timing belt cover (at least there were in mine) that are pretty easy to use to make sure that the cams are positioned correctly when putting the belt back on. Marking the block and cams like tech suggested would be even easier though.

And like tech said, if there are cracks in the accessory belt, you might as well change it while you have it off...otherwise, it's easy to do later on.

Hey mtnbkr,
Could you seen me the PDF files also. I have 2 volvo's, an s40 and a s60. The s40 is getting the timing belt first. It's seems easier than the s60. Do you know of a dedicated s60 site like the s40 Concepts site. Are there any how to's for s60's??

Your help is much appreciated and let me know where you are, We are mtn bikers also.
thanks again.

Blackberry, PM me with your email address...I'll send you the files.

There are lots of how-to's out there, but I don't know of one big collextion dedicated to the S60. This site. Is a good source though.

I live in MI.
