Default AC/after blow problem

Hi all,

Pardon me if this has been addressed before, but I own a 2006 S60, which has recently developed the dreaded problem of the AC blower staying on after the ignition is turned off. I know about the after blow feature, but the problem in my car is that the AC blower stays on right after I turn the car off, not 45 minutes or so later. The blower seems to stay on for a long time and has drained my battery twice. I took it to the dealer, who replaced the battery and reset the software. For a couple of days, the blower turned off when I turned the car off, but then it happened again. Now, I can't turn the AC off even when the engine is on and I switch the AC control to off. And the strength of the blower can't be regulated -- it is the same on all settings. Is this related to the after blow, why can't I turn the AC off when the car is on or off, why can't i regulated the flow of air, etc. I now have a new batter, which will likely get drained again. Is this a software issue? I bought a battery jump-starter pack to avoid getting stranded, but how do I address the real problem? Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for any advice.

I have had this same problem and always took out the fuse for the blower when turning off the car. after a while the blower stopped working entirely. it is a problem with the "resistor" attatched to the blower motor as it seems to me like either several high amperage transistors and an analog controller to control the current or it is a PWM controller for speed control. at least for 2002 s60 its called a resistor. for yours its correct.

I hacked mine with a small relay instead. I don't have speed control so its either full blast or off. but if you don't care about speed control the relay is probably the cheapest option. If you wish for information on the hack I will attempt to make a tutorial if you so wish.

EDIT: forgot to mention that most of the price for that controller seems to go towards the "engineering" of it. that thing should really be no more than $50 after manufacturing to still make a profit...
