Default Brakes? I think

Hey, I have a 2001 Volvo S60

I'm not sure what the problem is, but was hoping somene could help me.

When I am driving everything is fine except when I come to a stop, such as a red light, I have my foot on the brake and when I release it, the car jerks and then is fine until i have to stop again. It is only when I am at a stop on Drive, not any other gear.

It must be all that horsepower wanting to be released on the green light

I actually feel the same thing on my 2001. Dealer states that it's actually normal with this breaking system from this year/model and not to worry about it.
Of course, any horror stories from anything different from what I was told are also accepted in this thread!

I would check and see if the neutral control has been disabled. Alot of times that will cause what you have.

Everytime you stop or let off the gas and coast the transmission goes into Neutral. Alot of cars have the Neutral control disabled because when you let off the brakes to hit the gas there is either a clunk or the surges in and out of gear.

A software update for the transmission will fix that, I did it.

Tech, Is there a way I can disable the neutral control myself, and do you know how much the software upgrade costs?

The software upgrade cost me $125 and the part number they used is: 30677036-3. HOWEVER, I believe that is wrong. It does not do the "neutral on stop" anymore but it will switch between fourth and fifth gear when I'm going 25-45 MPH as if it can't decide which one to stay in.

That was happening to me when I just bought my car used, but not anymore. I guess the previous owner didnt drive at that exactspeed alot, so the tranny adjusted its shiftpoints. My car now shifts perfectly for me

The cost should be 1 hour labor and $30.00 for the software unless the price went up.
