"Bulb Failure-Position light"????

2004 S60 2.5T, 81k miles.

I have this message displayed and can't figure out what it means? Any ideas?

I have a couple of other issues as well...
#1 My Stereo has lost its digital display and the steering wheel mounted radio controls quit working, any ideas what the cause could be?? Everything works fine, but no display and no function control from the steering wheel controls.
#2 I get another message as well "Time for normal maintanence", how do I get that message erased or turned off.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Best,
Dustin

Dustin,

I had the same messages last week. I found 2 bulbs burnt out, replacement took care of the "bulb" msg.

As for the "maintenance message, try this.
turn key to position I, within 2 seconds press the "trip reset" button and hold and turn to position II, continue to hold until you hear an audible "beep" or see the "yellow triangle warning light flash (up to 10-14 seconds) once you hear or see it, releast the button within 4 seconds.

If i remember correctly, that's what worked for me.

position light is rear light bulb. There are two per side so they look fine but one will probably be out. look carefully.
If your cruise and radio buttons dont glow and are no longer working it is probably the clock spring on the steering wheel. does your horn work.?

Thanks...I will check that. What is the fix if the "clock spring" is faulty, broken, needs replaced? Is this something I can do or better left to a knowledgeable mechanic?

I would leave the clock spring well alone. There is an airbag you could accidentally set off. I had the clock spring done on my car when i lost illumination to the cruise and radio buttons and it was less than £100 if i remember correctly. I will dig out the receipt tomorrow and let you know exactly what the damage was.

The part is called the airbag contact plate and it cost UK £54 supplied and fitted by an independent garage.
Hope this helps.

Crespo,
The horn still works...would this eliminate the "plate" or "clock spring" as the problem for the non working steering wheel mounted stereo controls and the no display on the stereo? Thanks for all your help so far!

Im afraid so. It sounds like you have a stereo error. It may be a dealer job. At least to get it diagnosed.
